The Purpose of Life is to be Happy

English Literacy-round4

The theme for this round is about Happiness. It is a very helpful to learn about since it is related to our life. In our life, happiness is the most important thing, without happiness your life won’t be meaningful. We did a lot of reading in class on CommonLit which help us to understand a lot about happiness before getting to write our own essay about happiness in a life-circumstance or situation of our own choice. Learning about this theme helps me a lot including lives and specially myself. When we have a better understanding of ourselves, we are able to experience ourselves as unique and separate individuals. We are then empowered to make changes and to build on our areas of strength as well as identify areas where we would like to make improvements. Happiness is not only that huge smile on your face. It’s a sense of being, a conscious choice on how to live your life. To me, happiness is the thing that helps  me to become the best version of myself. Throughout the process of learning this theme, it inspired me to write a Found poem about Happiness.

Failing is What Make our lives Meaningful

Life is like a book

There are a thousand of pages I have not yet read

Thinness needs to be feed

And the golden bridge will be lead

This golden bridge is leading, meaning life goes on

Decisions are now on my own

Whether I choose to move on and take a chance is unknown

If I don’t like the way the bridge is leading

Start building another one with lighting

I can guarantee that on the way, there won’t be any stop sign

Because problems are not the stop sign instead, they are guidelines

I am a simple person who hides a thousand feelings behind a happiness smile

You might see me cry

But I cry, not because I am weak, but it’s because I’ve been strong for too long

You might see me fall and fail

But life told me that, the person who falls, fails and gets up is so much stronger than the one who never fell

Facing problems will always be a part of life

But it’s how you face those problems that is the key

So, do not quit

Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champain.

This poem was inspired by my English Literacy teacher, Hannah. When I felt stuck in my life or feeling like I am in a hole, I usually find someone to talk with. Because I was facing too many problems at the same time, so it made me felt stuck and couldn’t do anything beside crying. I said “my teachers would be the second best choice to help me after praying”. I talked to her and she gave me a lot of advices like “facing problems will always be a part of life, but it’s how you face those problems that is key. I believe that I don’t have to face problems alone. I have God fighting for me. He doesn’t want me to carry the heavy load”. From all of her words, it just change the whole me, from a little frog with mud to a shining frog with love.

All of My Pieces

English Literacy – round 3

The theme for this round is the search for Identity. The first thing that we always did in class is to say positively affirmation because by saying positive affirmations you can change your thought process. Related to this theme, we also did something called the Where I’m from. I wrote a poem about myself inspired by George Ella Lyon.

George Ella Lyon. George Ella Lyon comes from the mountains of Kentucky. She started writing poems on her own in third grade, plus she took piano and voice lessons and played flute in the junior band. She has published a lot of things, including picture books, poetry, juvenile novels, and articles. She wrote a very beautiful poem called “When I’m from”. This poem contains lots and lots of similes and metaphors that make the readers really enjoy reading it and all of the stanzas are really powerful and meaningful. In the second stanza that says “I’m from the know-it-all and the pass-it-ons, from Perk up! and Pipe down!” can conclude that she refers to the school and the “I’m from the know-it-all” could define her as a person who knows everything and nothing that she doesn’t know when she was in school. Moreover, the childhood memory about the dirt under the back porch at her house and tasted like beets, also defined who she is when she was young that she liked to taste everything. By reading her poem, it inspires me to write my own poem. Thank you my lovely teacher, Hannah who find me the sources of her poem, exercises that makes me a good poem writer, and choose this type of lesson to teach me.

“I Am From” Poem Template

Adapted by Levi Romero

Inspired by “Where I’m From” by George Ella Lyon

I am from a place with some beautiful pictures on the wall

From the organized mess of clothes piles,

the sheets that are flannel, the duvet that makes me high

An old mirror but shines like new

And a wooden comb that prevents my hair from drying out

I am from the place that tells the story of who I am and a collection of what I love, brought together under one roof.

I am from the Cambodia purple fruit

The faces of every ant and the red marks on my body

make me so itchy that I handed with no fruit

I’m from a place where life begins and love never ends

from my mother’s milk and my father’s shoulder

I’m from sharing, advising

and from the Ha Ha Ha together

I’m from the No judging others and yourself

I’m from the not good to say “Oh! My God” and good to say “You are Special in any way”

From the “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest”

I’m from  a child of God

I’m from a tranquil province, Tboung Kmum, and plenty of rubber plants

Brohok and fresh vegetables

From when my king didn’t have enough Money to marriage my Angel

And until my two specials got their Infinite Love

I’m from the inside of the shining clean glass

With me or miles apart, you are always on my mind, forever in my heart

FAMILY is not an important thing, but it is everything

Father And Mother, I Love You

If you Believe in Yourself, Anything is Possible

English Literacy–Round 2

English Literacy has always been my favorite class because without it, you cannot make sense or communicate your understanding of a subject and it is even more important today because of how our economy and society are changing. Literacy teaches me to read, view, write, design, speak and listen in a way that allows me to communicate effectively. Our theme for this round is about Social and Environmental justice. We have been discussing and learning a lot about this topic such as, what is environmental justice/injustice, how is pollution related to inequality, and why and how does injustice affect me as a citizen. Social injustice is basically about the elimination of various human rights from a broad variance of unfair treatment due to their race, gender, age, religion, nationality, education, mental or physical ability, etc………………

As we are learning about all of those, we completed the Hyperdoc and make some discussions about how the power plants affect people, and we found out that most of the power plants in the state are located in a place where the minority groups stay.  We also did something called the Landfill Case Study which is about answering questions related to the environmental justice. Our teacher, Hannah has given me the Ethiopia country to research and answer some questions related to the topic that we are learning. Those questions are what is this country’s relationship with trash?, is there waste management? If so, what is it?, what is the government action?, and are there landfill communities?. We did this type of activity so that we can get more comprehensions about the environmental injustice, how does it look like in the other countries compared to our country and to understand furthermore about the government reaction to the environmental justice in their country.

Besides that, we are currently learning how to write an argumentative essay and surprisingly we are writing it, too. Before getting to the basic of learning it, we also did something called the Philosophical chair to brainstorm and to get a taste of what is it like?. Writing an argumentative essay is not easy and there are many steps of writing it including an introduction, body paragraphs, and the conclusion.

Introduction

  • Title needs to be interesting and effective
  • Hook is the part that you are grabbing the reader’s attention
  • Background Information is to give a reader a heads up of what you are going to talk about and understands the situation or problem you’re talking about
  • Thesis is a sentence in which you state your main argument and a brief description of how you will prove it.

Body Paragraphs

  • is a group of related sentences about a particular topic or idea directly relating to the thesis

Conclusion

  • is to restate the main argument. It reminds the reader of the strengths of the argument

To sum up, it is not an easy thing to do, but I finally get through it because

I always believe in myself!.

My funny memory

English Literacy-round 1

English Literacy is one of my most favorite classes. It is my very last class. I have learned lots and lots of knowledge from this class. One thing that I like the most in this class is that we always get to do a test every Monday. The test is about the ten vocabularies that the teacher gave us to study one week before. On Monday, when we finished the test, our teacher gave us another ten vocabularies to study and we have another test. The test helps me a lot because I always learned ten English vocabularies every week. This helps me a lot with my English.

I have also learned how to write my mini personal narrative. This narrative can be in the form of a story or a poem. I chose to write a poem because it packs a lot of meaning and emotions and we don’t have to be a professional to write it.

The poem describes a memory I’ve done with my family and in the church.

A poem thanking the church for the Christmas day

For all of the presents

You put under the tree,

For all of the time

You picked after me……….

For the time that you took

Off training wheels

For the night that you made me

My favorite meals

The delicious meal that you made for everybody

Spending the whole morning  to make it yummy

Collaboration and make it easy

Everybody enjoy  those super delicious foods ever

For the time that you made me happy

Playing games without wearing a nappy

Fun fun fun and pee pee pee

Laughing with no limit

The game ended in five minutes

I got zero point because of the unlimited laughing

For the time that you made me excited

The big present that you created

It makes me really interested

Because it was created by you

For the time that you encourage me

Make me strong

Teach me to sing a song

All of that,

Make my life a window for the light to shine through

And a mirror to reflect God’s love To all I meet. Amen

Last but not least

I sincerely thank you for the Christmas day

I really enjoy it, by the way

I want it to last forever

But, I love it anyway
